The $40k BTC put option emerges as second largest bet ahead of february expiry next week

0

The $40,000 put option has emerged as one of the most significant positions in bitcoin’s market ahead of the Feb. 27 expiry, highlighting strong demand for downside protection after a bruising selloff.

Options are derivatives that give holders the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell bitcoin at a predetermined price before expiry. Put options act as insurance against price declines, paying out if BTC falls below a set strike.

The $40,000 put is the second-largest strike by open interest, with roughly $490 million in notional value tied to that level, underscoring appetite for deep tail-risk hedges. BTC has declined by up to 50% from its October highs and is now trading around $66,000, reshaping positioning across the board as traders hedge against further losses.

Data from Deribit, the Dubai-based exchange owned by Coinbase, shows that roughly $7.3 billion in bitcoin options notional value is set to expire at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, $566 million sits at the $75,000 strike, which also represents the max pain level. Max pain refers to the price at which the greatest number of options expire worthless, minimizing payouts to buyers. With the spot price trading below $75,000, a move higher into expiry could reduce losses for call sellers.

Although calls outweigh puts overall, with 63,547 call contracts versus 45,914 puts, positioning is not purely bullish. The put-to-call ratio of 0.72 indicates that upside bets still dominate, but the concentration of sizeable put open interest at lower strikes highlights clear demand for downside insurance.

Traders retain exposure to a rebound, but are simultaneously hedging against the risk of another sharp leg lower.

When Will Your Job Be Automated?

0

At Finovate Europe, we asked attendees a deceptively simple question:

What year do you think your job could be automated?

The answers revealed more than just dates. They exposed optimism, scepticism, humour — and a healthy dose of uncertainty about the pace of change.

Some responses were pragmatic. “2030,” one attendee offered. Close enough to feel realistic, but far enough away to remain abstract. Another said “2033,” adding a caveat about whether they’d already be “on the beach drinking martinis” by then. A third projected further out — 2044 — suggesting that certain technological hurdles would need to be cleared first.

And then there were those who answered with confidence: “Never. Never. Never.”

The range of answers highlights something important about the current AI moment. Automation is no longer theoretical. It’s no longer confined to manufacturing or repetitive back-office tasks. In fintech, AI now writes code, drafts compliance summaries, personalises marketing, detects fraud, and supports customer service in real time.

Yet when it comes to personal impact, the timeline becomes harder to define.

Part of that hesitation may reflect the evolving nature of work itself. Jobs are rarely automated in one sweeping moment. Instead, tasks are gradually augmented, reshaped, or reallocated. A role in 2030 may look dramatically different from its 2025 version — but still exist.

There’s also a human dimension. Many fintech roles rely on judgment, context, creativity, and trust. While AI continues to advance rapidly, full replacement feels different from assistance. For some, automation means efficiency. For others, it signals obsolescence. For a few, it simply won’t happen.

The humour in the responses — references to retirement or digital projections on stage — masks a serious industry conversation. As AI capabilities accelerate, professionals are increasingly aware that the future of work is not static.

So when will your job be automated?

The answers at Finovate suggest we’re still negotiating that timeline — somewhere between 2030 and “never.”

Bitcoin Bottom Signal That Preceded 1,900% Rally Flashes Again

Bitcoin’s “short-term holder stress” metric has fallen to lows not seen since 2018, suggesting the market has capitulated and possibly bottomed.

A key Bitcoin (BTC) on-chain metric is flashing its most extreme capitulation signal since 2018, hinting at a potential cycle-low setup.

Bitcoin is mirroring 1,900% rally setup from 2018

Bitcoin’s short-term holder stress has dropped to its lowest level since the 2018 bear market bottom, according to new on-chain data from Checkonchain.

The Short-Term Holder (STH) Bollinger Band metric shows the oscillator falling into its deepest oversold territory in nearly eight years.

The indicator applies Bollinger Bands to the gap between Bitcoin’s spot price and the average cost basis of short-term holders, defined as wallets holding BTC for less than 155 days.

When the oscillator pierces the lower statistical band, it signals that Bitcoin is trading significantly below what recent buyers paid, beyond normal historical volatility. Historically, this signal has aligned with macro bottoms.

For instance, a similar oversold print appeared in late 2018 and preceded a roughly 150% rally within a year and 1,900% BTC price increase in three years.

It also flashed ahead of the November 2022 bottom, which preceded a 700% rally to a record high near $126,270.

Additionally, realized losses among short-term holder whales have stayed muted since Bitcoin’s October 2025 peak near $126,000, suggesting larger recent buyers haven’t capitulated yet.

Bitcoin may rebound by the end of March

Wells Fargo also sees a near-term liquidity tailwind building for Bitcoin.

In a note cited by CNBC, Wells Fargo strategist Ohsung Kwon said larger-than-usual US tax refunds in 2026 could revive the so-called “YOLO” trade, with as much as $150 billion potentially flowing into equities and Bitcoin by the end of March.

Such an event could absorb remaining sell pressure, reinforcing the idea that Bitcoin may bottom in the coming weeks.
