PIP Labs Sheds Staff as Story Protocol Leans Into AI

0

In brief

  • Story Protocol developer PIP Labs has let go of several employees and contractors.
  • The reductions come as the firm explores opportunities associated with AI.
  • The company unveiled an $80 million Series B funding round in 2024.

PIP Labs, the company behind Story Protocol, a layer-1 network for licensing and maintaining intellectual property, has let go of several employees as it explores opportunities associated with artificial intelligence.

The reductions include five full-time employees and three contractors, representing around 10% of staff contributing to Story across various entities, the company told Decrypt. That includes the Story Foundation and infrastructure layer Poseidon, according to Story Chief Protocol Officer Andrea Muttoni.

“PIP Labs is sharpening focus [through] a small workforce adjustment,” he said in a statement to Decrypt, noting that the company has begun leaning into IP infrastructure for AI, with a focus on AI trading data and the emergence of AI agents.

In a Telegram message reviewed by Decrypt, a former employee said the layoffs pertained to 15% of the staff behind Story Protocol, including staff that worked on events.

When Story unveiled an $80 million Series B funding round in 2024, PIP Labs positioned the network as a new way to reduce friction for creatives, by allowing them license and remix IP without the need of rent-seeking lawyers. Through programmable licensing, Story is designed to automate royalty payments.

The funding round valued PIP Labs at $2 billion and was led by venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz, drawing participation from individuals including Walt Disney Imagineering executive Scott Trowbridge and pseudonymous NFT collector Cozomo de’ Medici.

The network debuted last February alongside its native IP token, which has fallen 86% to about $0.80 over the past year, according to CoinGecko. In September, the token reached an all-time high of $14.78, equating to a market cap of nearly $3.4 billion.

That month, a Story-based meme coin modeled on “Baby Shark” creator Pinkfong collapsed after a dispute emerged over IP from the South Korean firm behind the viral YouTube hit. On X, Story apologized for the confusion, noting that it wasn’t involved in licensing matters between IP World, a platform for IP-backed meme coins, and other entities.

Muttoni said Story remains focused on IP, whether that touches industries like media or biotech, but its latest round of layoffs suggests the company has grown increasingly interested in machine-based users as opposed to humans. The shift comes as companies including Coinbase race to bring crypto wallets for agents to market.

Last year, Poseidon, a company incubated by Story, raised $15 million in a seed funding round also led by Andreessen Horowitz. The startup allows AI developers to access legally cleared training data, and Muttoni said Poseidon’s recent “traction is shaping where Story will double down.”

In January, Poseidon introduced a dataset containing 33,000 hours of audio across 17 languages. On X, Poseidon Chief Scientist Sandeep Chinchali said audio represents a limiting factor for AI because it is becoming a primary interface between humans and AI.

PIP Labs’ layoffs follow a series of staff reductions among crypto industry firms this year. Earlier this week, the team behind Ethereum layer-2 network Optimism let go of 20 employees. And last month, Jack Dorsey’s Block Inc. let go of 4,000 employees—roughly 40% of its workforce—attributing the move to its pivot towards AI alongside PIP Labs.

AI agents are quietly rewriting prediction market trading

0

Prediction markets have long promised to aggregate insights about future events. Increasingly, those signals are coming not just from people, but from machines.

According to David Minarsch, CEO and co-founder of Valory AG, the team behind the crypto-AI protocol Olas, autonomous AI agents are emerging as powerful tools for trading prediction markets, particularly for retail users trying to compete in an increasingly automated environment.

Valory builds products at the intersection of blockchain and multi-agent systems (MAS), and its current focus is Olas, formerly known as Autonolas. The protocol is designed as infrastructure for autonomous software agents that can run services on blockchains, interact with smart contracts, and cooperate with one another while earning crypto rewards.

The broader vision is what Minarsch calls an “agent economy”. A decentralized ecosystem where autonomous AI agents perform useful tasks and generate value for their users.

One of the most visible experiments in that vision is Polystrat, an AI agent launched on the prediction-market platform Polymarket in February 2026. The agent trades on behalf of users who self-custody and own it, executing strategies continuously around the clock.

“In a nutshell, Polystrat is an autonomous AI agent that trades on Polymarket 24/7 on behalf of its human user,” Minarsch said. The idea is simple: while humans sleep, work or lose focus, the agent keeps trading.

Prediction markets, platforms where users trade contracts tied to real-world outcomes, have surged from niche forecasting tools into a fast-growing corner of fintech over the past few years. The industry’s breakout moment came during the 2024 U.S. presidential election, when trading volumes spiked and the markets gained mainstream visibility, followed by rapid expansion into sports, economics, and crypto-related bets. By 2025, total notional trading volume across major platforms exceeded $44 billion, with monthly activity reaching as much as $13 billion during peak periods.

Today the market is highly concentrated around two dominant players: Kalshi, a U.S.-regulated event-contracts exchange overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and Polymarket, a crypto-native platform that operates globally and offers a broader range of prediction markets. Together they account for roughly 85–97% of trading volume in the sector, processing tens of billions of dollars in annual bets on everything from elections and central-bank policy to sports and cultural events

Why machines may outperform humans

The push toward AI-driven trading stems from a simple observation. Much of the intelligence embedded in modern AI models hasn’t yet translated into financial markets.

That realization prompted Valory’s team to begin building what they call a “prediction market economy” on Olas in 2023, an ecosystem where AI agents use prediction tools and data pipelines to forecast outcomes and trade on them.

Prediction markets themselves are built on probabilistic forecasting. A simple guess about an event, whether a political outcome, economic indicator or sports result, might be no better than a coin flip. But structured data analysis and disciplined trading strategies can change that equation.

“Simply prompting off-the-shelf models with markets usually results in outcomes no better than a coin-flip,” Minarsch said. “But state-of-the-art AI models wrapped in custom workflows, so called prediction tools, have historically shown predictive accuracy up to 70% and higher.”

The results so far suggest that machines may have an advantage. Third-party data indicates that only about 7% to 13% of human traders achieve positive performance on prediction markets, while the majority lose money.

At the same time, machine participation is growing quickly. More than 30% of wallets on Polymarket are already using AI agents, according to analytics platform LayerHub.

Minarsch believes this trend reflects a broader shift: humans are already competing with machines whether they realize it or not. “You have human participants in prediction markets alongside many machines,” he said. “So humans are already in a battle with machines.”

The key difference is that machines are less emotional and better at sticking to consistent strategies.

By making AI agents available to everyday users, Olas aims to level that playing field.

Early traction for autonomous traders

The early performance of Polystrat has been encouraging.

Within roughly a month of launch, the agent executed more than 4,200 trades on Polymarket and recorded single-trade returns as high as 376%, according to data shared by the team.

“Agents tend to do better than humans,” he said. “Polystrat AI agents already outperform human participants in Polymarket, with over 37% of them showing a positive P&L versus less than half that number for human participants.”

Users can configure their own agents depending on strategy preferences, data sources or risk tolerance.

The long tail of prediction markets

Beyond performance, Minarsch believes AI agents could unlock an overlooked opportunity in prediction markets: the “long tail” of niche or localized questions.

Many prediction markets revolve around major global events, elections, macroeconomic data or high-profile sports competitions. But countless smaller questions remain largely unexplored.

“Humans often don’t bother digging for the information,” Minarsch said. “They can’t be bothered to make the effort.” AI agents, by contrast, can analyze large numbers of smaller markets simultaneously.

“The long tail of prediction markets is very interesting for AI agents,” he said. “You just point the agent at the problem and it does the work.”

This could help expand prediction markets as a data-gathering tool for businesses, policymakers and decision-makers. Forecast markets have long been studied as ways to aggregate dispersed knowledge and surface insights that traditional surveys or models might miss.

In that sense, prediction markets may become a kind of upstream technology for decision-making across industries.

Human-AI collaboration

Despite the rise of automation, Minarsch does not see AI agents replacing humans entirely.

Instead, he frames them as complements.

“Humans make choices in a more rushed way, which can be detrimental,” he said. “AI agents can act as something humans rely upon.”

One future direction involves allowing users to augment their agents with proprietary knowledge or specialized data sets. “We see demand from users who want their agent to tap into their own knowledge base or proprietary information,” Minarsch said. “That would allow agents to trade in a more principled way than a human could.”

Over time, the team says prediction models and data pipelines powering these agents have improved significantly, generating sustained alpha when combined with general-purpose large language models.

Risks and regulation

The growth of prediction markets also raises ethical and regulatory questions.

Some critics argue that markets forecasting wars, deaths or disasters could create incentives to manipulate outcomes or profit from harmful events.

Minarsch acknowledged that careful guardrails are needed.

“There needs to be regulation about what kinds of prediction markets should exist,” he said.

At the same time, he believes AI agents could also help detect problematic markets or manipulation attempts by identifying suspicious patterns.

“Agents could spot patterns and help shut down problematic markets,” he said.

Building a user-owned AI economy

For Minarsch, the ultimate goal is not simply better trading strategies.

It is ensuring that everyday users retain a stake in an increasingly automated digital economy.

A future where AI systems perform most economic activity could risk disenfranchising individuals if centralized platforms control the technology. “Olas aims to create a world where human users can be empowered through their AI agents rather than disenfranchised by them.”

To counter that dynamic, the project emphasizes user ownership of AI systems. “We want to create more user-owned agents,” Minarsch said.

If successful, that model could allow people to deploy autonomous software that generates value on their behalf across markets and services. Prediction markets are just the starting point.

Neopool — Redefining Bitcoin Mining with Transparency, Innovation & Results

0

Neopool is not just another Bitcoin mining pool — it’s a bold reimagining of what cryptocurrency mining should look like. Built on a foundation of transparency, smart technology, and genuine care for miners’ earnings, Neopool has quickly risen to become one of the most talked-about names in the global mining community. In less than two years of operation, this trailblazing pool has achieved what many considered impossible: quintupling its hash rate in just six months and securing a coveted place among the world’s top 15 Bitcoin mining pools.

Whether you’re a solo miner just finding your footing or an industrial-scale operation demanding the very best, Neopool has engineered a platform that puts your profitability first — every single day.

The Neopool Journey: From Vision to Global Recognition

Every great company starts with a vision. For Neopool, that vision was born in 2021, when a team of international mining enthusiasts and seasoned developers began quietly building what would become a game-changer in the Bitcoin mining ecosystem.

  • 2021 — Development begins with a clear, bold vision
  • 2024 — Beta testing launches; first miners welcomed to the platform
  • 2025 — Full-scale launch and explosive, rapid growth

The speed of Neopool‘s ascent is a testament to the quality of its technology and the dedication of its team. Within months of launching publicly, the pool had already carved out a global reputation — not by accident, but through deliberate engineering excellence.

Leadership That Knows the Industry Inside Out

At the helm of Neopool‘s technical direction is CTO Andrei Kapeikin, a seasoned IT professional with over 20 years of experience — including notable work at IBA Group. Andrei brings deep expertise in team-building, process optimization, Agile transformations, and strategic planning. His philosophy is simple: build products that actually work and bring real value.

Behind him is an international crew of tech enthusiasts who genuinely love what they do. These aren’t just developers — they are miners themselves, people who understand the ecosystem from the inside, and it shows in every line of code they write.

What Neopool Has Already Achieved

The numbers speak for themselves. Since launching, Neopool has rapidly climbed the global rankings to reach some remarkable milestones:

  • Top 15 Bitcoin mining pool globally, as tracked on miningpoolstats.stream
  • #1 worldwide for Daily PPS (Pay Per Share) efficiency — not just competitive, but the absolute best
  • Hash rate quintupled in just six months — an extraordinary technical achievement

These aren’t just marketing claims. Neopool‘s performance is independently verifiable, and the pool’s radical transparency means miners can always see exactly what’s happening with their earnings.

What Makes Neopool Different from Other Mining Pools?

The Bitcoin mining pool landscape has long been dominated by a handful of giants who’ve grown comfortable. Neopool was created precisely to disrupt that complacency. Here’s what sets it apart:

Smart Algorithms, Real Results

Neopool’s proprietary optimization algorithms are designed with one goal: maximizing your earnings, not the pool’s. The technology continuously adapts to market conditions to keep miners at peak profitability.

Speed That Matters

A global server network with 24/7 monitoring ensures zero downtime and maximum uptime. In mining, every second counts — and Neopool delivers.

Radical Transparency

The FPPS (Full Pay Per Share) payout model comes with clear calculations and no fine print. What you see is exactly what you get — no hidden fees, no surprises.

Get Paid Faster

With an industry-lowest 0.001 BTC payout threshold and automated daily payouts, miners get their earnings quickly and reliably.

Your Scale, Your Terms

From solo miners to industrial operations, Neopool customizes rates to match each client’s needs. There are no cookie-cutter solutions here.

Security You Can Trust

Your earnings deserve protection, and Neopool’s infrastructure is built with security as a non-negotiable priority.

Multi-Language Support

Global reach means global support — from people who actually understand mining, in the language you’re most comfortable with.

Why Neopool Was Built: A Mission Beyond Profit

Neopool wasn’t created just to be another pool. It was born from a genuine belief that the Bitcoin ecosystem needed something better — something that served miners and the broader network alike:

  • Decentralization matters — More diverse pools signing blocks means a stronger, healthier Bitcoin network
  • Security for everyone — Preventing 51% attacks is a real, practical priority, not just theory
  • Innovation was stalling — Existing pools had grown comfortable, and the market needed a disruptor
  • The network wins when miners win — More competition drives better features, better service, faster innovation

In their own words: “We’re the tech geeks of mining — professionals building for professionals who take their craft seriously.”

Who Is Neopool Built For?

Neopool is purpose-built for professional miners who demand more from their mining pool. The typical Neopool user is an experienced miner — often between 30 and 50 years old — who knows their hardware, understands market dynamics, and refuses to accept mediocrity.

What professional miners get with Neopool:

  • Maximum profitability without compromises
  • Risk mitigation through smart, resilient infrastructure
  • Long-term stability — no short-term gimmicks or false promises
  • Support from people who genuinely speak the technical language of mining

Where Is Neopool Headed? A Bold Vision for the Future

If Neopool‘s first two years are anything to go by, the next chapter will be even more impressive. The team has set an audacious goal: crack the top 3 Bitcoin mining pools worldwide within 2 years.

To get there, Neopool is focused on:

  • Building genuine, lasting brand awareness — not just noise
  • Proving technical expertise at every stage

Ethereum Foundation Finalizes 5,000 ETH Sale In $10M OTC Deal — Details

0

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) announced that it has completed an over-the-counter (OTC) sale of 5,000 ETH over the weekend. According to the organization’s disclosure, proceeds from this sale will be directed towards its core operations and other activities.

Ethereum Foundation Sells $10 Million In ETH To BitMine

In a March 14 post on the social media platform X, the Ethereum Foundation said that it finalized a 5,000 ETH OTC deal, valued at roughly $10.21 million. The EF identified BitMine Immersion Technologies, the world’s largest corporate holder of Ether, as the counterparty (buyer) in this over-the-counter deal.

The Ethereum Foundation revealed that the Ether tokens will be sold to BitMine at an average price of $2,042.96. Hence, this deal could be viewed as a fresh acquisition for BitMine, an ETH treasury company currently holding more than 4.5 million Ether valued at approximately $9.3 billion.

The EF disclosed that the on-chain transaction will come from a Safe multisig wallet, with proceeds from the sale directed toward the foundation’s core operations and activities, including protocol research and development (R&D), ecosystem development, community grant funding, and so on.

The organization also mentioned that the transaction is part of ongoing treasury management activity based on a recently published policy. In its treasury policy in June 2025, the foundation revealed that Ether tokens will be sold to maintain its fiat-denominated assets from the Opex (operating expense) Buffer target.

Other strategies for their Ether holdings include staking, with over 2,000 ETH deployed so far, and plans to supply around 70,000 ETH into validators using open-source infrastructure from third-party providers.

This latest sale to BitMine would represent the second deal of this nature in less than a year. In July 2025, the Ethereum Foundation sold 10,000 ETH over the counter to SharpLink Gaming — another ETH treasury firm — at an average price of $2,572.37 in a transaction worth $25.7 million.

Ethereum Price Overview

The over-the-counter path of this deal means that the Ethereum price will not face the bearish pressure typically associated with centralized exchange sales. Last September, the foundation announced plans to sell 10,000 ETH via public exchanges, sparking criticism from the crypto crowd.

As of this writing, the price of ETH stands at around $2,086, reflecting an over 1% decline in the past 24 hours. This past-day decline is not enough to wipe the altcoin’s weekly gain, which stands at nearly 7% over the past seven days.

Oil price rises are ‘bad news for Bitcoin,’ with ‘inflationary chain’ to hit crypto liquidity – DL News

0

  • Stock market sell-off may follow if oil prices stay above $90, says JPMorgan.
  • High oil prices will drive inflation and interest rates, expert explains.
  • Bitcoin won’t thrive if stagflation hits US economy, analyst warns.

Oil price rises that drive the cost of a barrel of Brent crude to $120 could hurt Bitcoin’s chances of staging a recovery to October’s $126,000 all-time highs, an expert has warned.

The US-based financial group JPMorgan’s banking arm told its clients on Friday the war in the Middle East may leave oil prices sitting above the $90 per barrel mark for an extended period, and pushing toward the $120 mark. Brent prices rose over 3% on Friday, trading for almost $104 a barrel at the close of trading in the US.

This could trigger a 10%-15% correction in the US stock market, said the bank’s analysts, with “spillover effects in international and emerging markets.”

And Bitcoin, experts say, would be indirectly caught up in the financial fallout.

“Oil doesn’t hit Bitcoin directly; it works through a chain of macro variables,” Jonatan Randin, Senior Market Analyst at the crypto exchange PrimeXBT, told DL News. “Oil sets the inflation tone, the inflation tone shapes the path to interest rate cuts, which in turn determines crypto liquidity. Right now, that chain is working against Bitcoin.”

The predictions come as missiles continue to fly in the Middle East, and Bitcoin continues on a gentle upward trajectory above $70,000, with investors pumping over $763 million into US-based crypto exchange-traded funds last week.

Bitcoin prices continue to rise gradually on March 15.

Rate changes unlikely

Markets say there is a vanishingly small probability the Federal Reserve will change interest rates this month.

Observers now do not expect an interest rate cut until September at the earliest, as oil prices continue to rise. Goldman Sachs analysts said last week they expected higher inflation to “make it harder for the Fed to start cutting rates soon.”

On March 6, the US government announced that payrolls had dropped by 92,000, with unemployment rising to 4.4%.

“This all points to a stagflationary scenario, where growth is weakening alongside rising energy costs,” Randin said. “Bitcoin doesn’t thrive in that environment.”

The JPMorgan outlook was similarly gloomy, forecasting financial trouble across the board, all of which analysts say could take a toll on Bitcoin prices.

“As the price rises towards and beyond, say, $120 per barrel, the selling in the [US stock market] will intensify,” Kriti Gupta, the bank’s executive director, and Joe Seydl, a senior markets economist, told JPMorgan’s banking clients.

“The compounded effect of sustainably higher oil prices and a [US stock market] bear market has a destructive demand effect, materially amplifying the hit to growth,” Gupta and Seydl wrote.

Those hoping a peaceful end to the conflict will help drive Bitcoin prices up may be in for a rude awakening, experts say. Other problems besides the war may continue to hamper a recovery.

“It’s worth remembering that Bitcoin was already in a bear market before [the hostilities] started,” Randin said. “The market is still struggling with the same macroeconomic headwinds that were there before the first missile launched. A resolution [to the war] removes one layer of pressure, but it doesn’t automatically reverse the broader trend.”

Crypto startup SwissBorg secures MiCA authorization from French regulator

0

SwissBorg, a digital asset investment platform with over $1 billion in assets under management, has obtained approval under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation from the French Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), the firm announced Friday.

The authorisation permits the platform to offer multiple crypto-asset services, including custody, administration, order execution, transfers, portfolio management, and crypto-asset advisory services.

SwissBorg CEO Cyrus Fazel described the milestone as a defining moment for the company and the European crypto ecosystem, saying regulatory alignment is essential for building trust and enabling long-term innovation.

“At SwissBorg, we have always believed that embracing regulation is the only true path to mass adoption and long-term trust,” said Fazel. “Securing our MiCA approval is a defining moment for our community and the broader European crypto-asset ecosystem. It empowers us to innovate with legal certainty while offering our users the highest standard of protection.”

In the coming months, SwissBorg will migrate its European operations from its existing entity in Estonia to the newly authorised CASP entity in France.

The transition will occur gradually, and users will be informed of the process as it progresses.

SwissBorg has grown rapidly since launching its crypto app in 2021. The company completed a Series A community funding round in 2023, raising $23 million from 16,660 investors.

The company has a history of community-focused initiatives, including a successful 2017 ICO that raised $52 million and a 2018 blockchain referendum allowing users to vote on product development priorities. SwissBorg has also received industry recognition through its participation in the Venture Leaders Fintech programme and awards within the Swiss startup ecosystem.

Altseason Is a Relic of the Past, Says Trading Firm Executive

0

Traditional altcoin cycles, which featured broad market rallies called “altseason,” are now a relic of the past as new crypto market dynamics set in, according to Andrei Grachev, Managing Partner of DWF Labs, a crypto market maker and investment firm.

Too many tokens competing for limited capital and mindshare, a smaller number of market participants, and crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) altering market dynamics by trapping liquidity are driving factors of the disruption, Grachev told Cointelegraph.

An institutional focus on large-cap digital assets like Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) is also diverting capital and attention away from altcoins, he said.

The total number of crypto tokens tracked by CoinMarketCap has exploded since 2023, surging to over 37.8 million unique tokens. Source: CoinMarketCap

“The long tail of tokens will still exist, but will largely function as high-risk venture or casino-style plays. The capital is not going to keep expanding fast enough to support all of it,” Grachev said. He added:

“That means shorter narrative windows, more violent rotations, and less room for weak projects to survive on hype alone. The market is moving away from broad altcoin rallies and toward more selective moves in specific sectors.”

Matt Hougan, the chief investment officer at investment firm Bitwise, also said traditional altcoin cycles are over, and that institutional investors are focused on yield-bearing digital instruments or crypto assets that capture revenue.

The altcoin market cap has taken a beating since the October 2025 market crash

38% of altcoins are near all-time lows, according to CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost, who said this is worse than the post-FTX market crash.

“Liquidity is becoming increasingly diluted by the growing number of projects and tokens entering the market,” he told Cointelegraph.

Over $209 billion has exited the altcoin market over the last 13 months. The altcoin market cap briefly tapped a high of $1.19 trillion in October 2025, before the market crash dragged it back down to about $719 billion.

Meanwhile, inflows into Bitcoin ETFs remain strong, with five days of positive inflows, according to data from fund manager Farside Investors, while altcoin ETFs continue to experience outflows.
