Franklin Templeton is putting its $1.7 trillion weight behind Ondo to bring 24/7 stock trading to the blockchain

0

Ondo Finance said it will work with Franklin Templeton to bring tokenized versions of traditional investment products to blockchain users, a step that reflects a broader push to merge conventional finance with crypto infrastructure.

The effort centers on Ondo Global Markets, a platform that issues blockchain-based tokens backed by real-world assets such as publicly traded stocks and exchange-traded funds. These tokens track the value of underlying securities and can be held in digital wallets, allowing users to gain exposure without opening a brokerage account.

Franklin Templeton, which manages about $1.7 trillion in assets, will provide investment products and support the rollout. The firms also plan to launch education programs aimed at crypto-native users who may be unfamiliar with long-term portfolio strategies.

The partnership builds on a growing trend where large asset managers are testing blockchain rails to distribute products. Franklin Templeton has already developed digital asset tools, while others, including BlackRock, have explored tokenized funds and onchain settlement.

Ondo Global Markets, launched in September 2025, reports over $620 million in total value locked and more than $12 billion in trading volume across 60,000 users. The company says demand is coming from users who want exposure to traditional markets without the friction of cross-border accounts, currency conversions or trading hours.

The implications reach beyond convenience. Tokenization could reshape how assets move and who can access them. Traditional markets run on limited hours and layers of intermediaries. Blockchain systems, by contrast, operate round the clock and allow direct ownership through wallets.

Still, the shift will test how far tokenized securities can go within existing rules. Regulators have yet to fully address how these instruments should be treated when they move across borders and wallets rather than brokerages.

Competition is also building. A growing list of firms now offer tokenized funds, and major financial players are weighing how to defend their role as gatekeepers. If blockchain-based

distribution gains traction, it could chip away at the advantage long held by banks and brokers that control access to markets.

For Ondo and Franklin Templeton, the bet is that investors will prefer a model that blends familiar assets with new rails.

Greenwich, CT – March 25, 2026 – Interactive Brokers (Nasdaq: IBKR), an automated global broker, today announced that clients can transfer their existing holdings in supported cryptocurrencies to their Interactive Brokers-linked crypto account, enabling them to trade crypto at lower costs while gaining access to global investment markets – all without selling their digital assets upfront.

Interactive Brokers offers a comprehensive solution that brings digital assets and traditional investments together on a single platform, providing access to competitive cryptocurrency pricing and broader investment opportunities. IBKR clients can now move supported digital assets directly from external wallets or platforms into their IBKR‑linked crypto accounts without first liquidating their crypto positions. This enables them to manage digital assets alongside stocks, options, futures, currencies, bonds, and other investments.

Interactive Brokers offers some of the lowest cryptocurrency trading costs available through a traditional brokerage platform. Cryptocurrency trading through Paxos or zerohash on the Interactive Brokers platform carries commissions of 0.12% to 0.18% of trade value, with a USD 1.75 minimum per order, and no added spreads or markups. By comparison, many crypto platforms charge trading fees of up to 2.00% of trade value or more, often with additional embedded costs.

“Crypto investors should be able to access competitive crypto pricing and diversified investment opportunities without managing multiple accounts or liquidating their positions,” said Milan Galik, Chief Executive Officer of Interactive Brokers. “By enabling direct crypto portfolio transfers, we’re making it easy for traders to benefit from IBKR’s low-cost crypto trading and gain access to our full range of global markets within the same professional trading environment.”

Eligible clients of Interactive Brokers LLC and Interactive Brokers (U.K.) Limited can transfer Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and other supported cryptocurrencies directly into their IBKR-linked crypto accounts at Paxos or zerohash.

UK Review Calls for Temporary Ban on Crypto Political Donations

0

Philip Rycroft, a former senior civil servant, recommended that the UK government impose a temporary moratorium on political donations made in crypto assets in an independent review published on Wednesday.

“The government should legislate in the Representation of the People Bill to introduce a moratorium on political donations made in cryptoassets,” Rycroft wrote in the report, which was commissioned by the government in December 2025.

The review said crypto assets could provide a route for foreign money to enter the UK political system because of incomplete regulation, the difficulty of tracing the “ultimate ownership” of some assets, and the possibility of breaking larger donations into smaller transfers. It noted that donations below 500 British pounds ($669) fall outside the normal permissibility test, while formal reporting thresholds for political parties are higher.

The review comes a week after a separate report by the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy called on the government to impose an immediate moratorium on crypto donations to political parties until the Electoral Commission produces statutory guidance ahead of the next general election.

Rycroft leaves room for future crypto donations

Rycroft wrote that the scale of crypto political donations is currently unknown because none have yet reached the reporting threshold that would require disclosure to the Electoral Commission.

Still, the report argued that political crypto donations could be allowed under “tight supervision” by the Electoral Commission and through UK-regulated cryptocurrency exchanges.

Rycroft added that the temporary pause in the political crypto donations should not be seen as a “prelude to an outright and permanent ban,” but rather an “interlude” allowing the regulatory environment to catch up to the reality of crypto.

The recommendation comes amid wider scrutiny of crypto and foreign-linked money in British politics. Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, received a record $12 million political donation from crypto investor Christopher Harborne in the third quarter of 2025 and another $4 million donation in the fourth quarter of 2025. Reform UK was the first political party to start accepting crypto donations in May 2025.

UK lawmakers reportedly started considering a ban on political cryptocurrency donations in December 2025. They are currently legal in the country, subject to permissible rules under the Electoral Commission guidance.

In January, seven senior UK Labour Party MPs urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to ban crypto donations to political parties.
