Whale Swaps $50 Million in Stablecoins for Just $36,000 of AAVE
The massive transaction routed through CowSwap on Ethereum resulted in a 99.9% loss.
The decentralized finance (DeFi) community is buzzing after an unidentified wallet swapped $50.4 million in USDT for just $36,000 worth of AAVE tokens.
Etherscan data shows that the wallet received 50.4 million USDT from Binance 20 days ago. Roughly two hours ago, the user deposited the stablecoins on Aave, DeFi’s largest lending protocol and attempted to swap their position for AAVE tokens.
Transaction logs show that the user placed an order via CoW Protocol, which is integrated in the Aave interface, to swap roughly 50.43M aEthUSDT for aEthAAVE. A CoW solver picked up the order and executed it through this routing:
- aEthUSDT to USDT: The solver burned 50.43M aEthUSDT via Aave V3, withdrawing 50.43M USDT.
- USDT to WETH via Uniswap V3: 50.43M USDT went into the Uniswap V3 USDT/WETH pool and came out as 17,958 WETH. At $2,050/ETH, $50.4M should yield roughly 24,600 WETH. That’s roughly $13.6 million lost to slippage at the Uniswap step alone.
- WETH to AAVE via SushiSwap: Here’s where it gets catastrophic. The SushiSwap AAVE/WETH pool currently has only about $73,000 in total liquidity. The solver pushed 17,958 WETH through this tiny pool and got back only 331 AAVE, worth $36,400. That’s effectively 99.9% slippage.
- AAVE to aEthAAVE via Aave deposit: 331 AAVE was deposited back into Aave V3, minting 327 aEthAAVE, which was delivered to the trader.
Aave founder Stani Kulechov said the user confirmed the trade despite being warned of “extraordinary slippage” by the Aave interface.
“We sympathize with the user and will try to make contact with the user, and we will return $600K in fees collected from the transaction,” he added.
BTC price is building steam, a $3 billion trigger could set it off: Crypto Daybook Americas
By Omkar Godbole (All times ET unless indicated otherwise)
Bitcoin looks to be gathering bullish momentum, with volatility expected to increase as prices near a $3 billion trigger point.
The leading cryptocurrency by market value climbed through $72,100 during European hours, the widely tracked average price over the past 50 days. According to analysts, a firm move above this level would confirm bullish momentum, potentially drawing in more buyers.
Volatility is likely to pick up should prices near $75,000. That’s where options market makers, who provide order-book liquidity and ensure a seamless trading experience, are holding net “short gamma” positions worth $3 billion, according to Markus Thielen, the founder of 10x Research.
It means that as prices climb toward that level, these entities are likely to buy to rebalance their net exposure to neutral even as prices rise. This so-called dealer hedging could boost market volatility, potentially accelerating any rally. Note that market makers make money through the bid-ask spread, not price direction.
“The options market shows roughly $3 billion of negative gamma exposure at the $75,000 strike, meaning dealers are likely short gamma around this level. As Bitcoin moves higher toward this region, dealer hedging flows can begin to play a more important role in shaping price dynamics,” Thielen said in a note to clients.
That’s not, however, a set-in-concrete scenario. Alex Kuptsikevich, the chief market analyst at FxPro, worries that macro headwinds will arrest gains in bitcoin.
“External factors are acting as a headwind, including rising oil and dollar prices, as well as the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 indices falling to their 200-day lows. We doubt Bitcoin will have the strength to withstand the wind for long, and internal resistance may soon become a significant obstacle to growth,” he said in an email.
Traditional markets are indeed sending risk-off signals. The strongest hint comes from the U.S. Treasury market, which underpins global finance. The MOVE index, which measures the 30-day expected price turbulence in Treasury notes, surged over 21% to 95 points Thursday, the biggest single-day rise since October 2024, according to data source TradingView.
Sharp spikes in Treasury volatility often tighten money worldwide, choking credit flows and sparking broad selling across markets. Stay alert!

FundBank Acquires Irish Blockchain Startup Trrue Chain in €10m Deal as Institutional Crypto Demand Rises
FundBank, the US institutional banking firm founded by former Waystone executives, has made a major investment to acquire the Irish blockchain startup Trrue Chain. The deal is worth €10million ($11million).
The acquisition is the first in a series of strategic moves by FundBank to establish itself as a global leader in the support of digital and crypto assets. The timing of the deal aligns directly with a marked increase in demand among institutional asset allocators and fund managers who are now integrating crypto and digital assets into their portfolios. Furthermore, FundBank noted that the move is supported by the ongoing evolution of US regulatory clarity, pointing to the Genius Act, the Clarity Act, and OCC Notice 186, which together are creating a safe harbour for institutional crypto services.
The US bank has been expanding rapidly into Europe over the past year. After launching banking operations in Luxembourg last year, FundBank recently received approval from the Central Bank of Ireland to establish its first bank branch in the region.
Bridging fiat and crypto custody

Co-founded in 2021 by Owen O’Driscoll, Pearse Ryan, and Arjan van Eersel, Trrue operates as a Layer-1 blockchain. The startup provides tailored infrastructure for businesses and individuals, ensuring compliance, transparency, and trust across highly regulated financial markets. Under the terms of the acquisition, the founders will remain with the company as employees.
FundBank aims to leverage this infrastructure to meet the rising demand for secure fiat banking and custody services from diverse stakeholders within the digital asset space.
Derek Delaney, senior executive at FundBank and founder of ComOp (the lead institutional investors in Trrue), outlined the strategic rationale behind the acquisition: “ComOp has been a long-time admirer of the innovative approach to governance through blockchain developed by Trrue and this coupled with a VASP and, subject to approval, CASP license, makes it a very unique asset.”
Delaney highlighted a specific gap in the Irish market: “Ireland has seen a number of the institutional VASPs choose to convert to CASPs in other jurisdictions and this has left a gap in the market that will become apparent as CASPs mainstream the institutional holding of crypto and digital assets in funds.”
He believes that the combination of FundBank’s product offering in Ireland with Trrue’s crypto capabilities creates a distinct competitive advantage. “We believe we can be the earliest adopters of institutional Fiat + Custody and, in time, will round this out to Fiat + Custody + Trading,” Delaney added.
Rebuilding financial architecture
Owen O’Driscoll, CEO of Trrue, emphasized the necessity of modernising core financial systems:
“Since founding Trrue in 2021, our focus has been on rebuilding the core architecture of finance. The systems the global economy relies on simply weren’t designed for the speed and demands of today.”
He described the investment as an important milestone and a meaningful affirmation of their strategy.
“With this partnership, we are accelerating the build-out of infrastructure that enables institutional capital to move instantly and securely,” O’Driscoll stated. “Becoming part of the FundBank Group accelerates our evolution as an institutional platform and strengthens our ability to scale with the governance and rigor the market demands.”
XRP Bolinger Bands Compress as Bulls Aim for $2.55
XRP’s (XRP) price was up 3% on Friday to trade above $1.40 as several technical and onchain indicators suggested it was due for a “significant” upward breakout.
Key takeaways:
-
XRP’s Bollinger Bands indicator now sees the potential for a massive price breakout.
-
XRP’s falling wedge pattern targets $2.55.
-
Declining exchange balances and persistent outflows indicate XRP accumulation.
XRP Bollinger Bands point at “significant” breakout
Bollinger Bands, a technical indicator used by traders to assess price momentum and volatility within a certain range, have reached their tightest point in eight months, signalling that volatility should be expected soon.
Related: Ripple to buy back $750M in shares through April: Report
The “daily XRP Bollinger Bands have slipped to their tightest level since July 2025,” analyst The Crypto Basic said in an X post on Thursday.
The XRP/USD pair surged about 60% in July 2025 to its multi-year high at $3.66, after breaking above the upper boundary of the Bollinger Bands.
“Tight Bollinger Bands often indicate lower volatility, and the breakout that follows could lead to an explosive run,” The Crypto Basic added.
Another analyst called this a preparation for a “significant breakout.”
XRP’s price continues to “consolidate within a symmetrical triangle structure with tightening Bollinger Bands and a stabilizing RSI,” fellow analyst XRP Update said, adding:
“This volatility compression suggests the market may be preparing for a significant breakout.”
XRP analyst Arthur said, with the Bollinger Bands tightening, a daily candlestick close above $1.50 “would confirm momentum.”

XRP falling wedge pattern targets $2.55
XRP price action is forming a falling wedge pattern on the weekly chart, a structure typically associated with bullish reversals after a prolonged downtrend.
The price has been compressing between two descending trendlines since July 2025, with the lower boundary now acting as key support near the $1.30 psychological level.

Meanwhile, the relative strength index (RSI), on the weekly chart, is rebounding from oversold territory, indicating fading selling momentum.
Historically, similar RSI conditions have preceded strong rebounds in XRP. For example, XRP rallied as much as 85% between July and September 2022 following the RSI’s recovery from oversold conditions.
A confirmed breakout above the wedge’s upper trendline could open the way for a run toward the bullish target of the prevailing chart pattern at $2.55, 78.5% above the current price.
As Cointelegraph reported, bulls must break and sustain the XRP price above $1.73-$2 supplier to signal a long-term trend shift.
Declining supply on exchanges backs XRP’s upside
XRP supply on exchanges, or the total amount of coins held on exchange addresses, continues to fall, reflecting accumulation and long-term investor confidence.
The XRP balance on exchanges dropped to 12.8 billion on Friday, levels last seen in May 2021.

A reducing balance means fewer XRP tokens are available for sale, reducing sell-side pressure.
Such outflows typically indicate strong accumulation by large holders, who move funds to cold storage, reducing immediate sell-side pressure and increasing the chances of XRP’s short-term rebound.
However, XRP’s recovery could be delayed by continued redemption from spot XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which have recorded outflows for five consecutive days, totalling $50.8 million.

Bitcoin tops $72,000 as crypto rallies despite stronger dollar: Crypto Markets Today
Bitcoin rose through $72,000 during European hours on Friday, rising by 2% since midnight UTC and outpacing gains in U.S. equity indexes.
Futures on the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 index dropped during Asian trading hours before recovering. Both are now in the green. The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY), meanwhile, broke above 100, a move that typically puts pressure on risk assets like cryptocurrencies and stocks.
Today, however, the crypto market seems relatively immune to that pressure, with notable gains across the board. The CoinDesk 20 Index (CD20) is 1.1% higher since midnight.
If bitcoin can break above $74,000, a level it has failed to penetrate recently, on convincing volume, it might trigger a breakout back to the $80,000 region. Otherwise, it is likely to revert to a trading range that dates back to Feb. 5.
The war in Iran continued to rage Friday morning, with fresh strikes being detected in Tehran and Dubai, keeping oil around $100 per barrel.
Derivatives positioning
- Cumulative industry-wide futures open interest (OI) increased 5% to $107.6 billion over the past 24 hours, signaling continued capital inflows as bitcoin and other tokens remain rock steady amid turmoil in global equity markets.
- Bitcoin’s (OI) rose to 687,200 BTC, the most since Feb. 25. Ether’s (ETH) grew to 13.72 million, the highest since Jan. 30. Annualized perpetual funding rates and cumulative volume deltas for both remain positive, a combination indicating investor bias toward bullish plays.
- In XRP, OI surged nearly 10% to $1.86 billion, the most since Feb. 6. Coupled with positive funding rates, this suggests renewed investor capital deployment for bullish bets. Open interest in SOL, ADA and SUI futures also saw notable increases.
- Bitcoin’s annualized 30-day implied volatility index (BVIV) dropped to a two-week low of 55%, supporting the case for continued spot price rallies. Ether’s volatility is falling as well. This stability contrasts with heightened volatility in the U.S. Treasury market.
- On Deribit, bitcoin puts remain pricier than calls, a sign of lingering demand for downside protection. For ETH, the put premium at the long end has nearly evaporated, hinting at a bullish reset.
- Block flows featured demand for bitcoin put spreads and ether call spreads.
Token talk
- The altcoin market also showed strength on Friday. U.S.- president-themed memecoin TRUMP surged by more than 30% in 24 hours after the announcement of a “gala luncheon” with Donald Trump for the top 297 token holders.
- Artificial intelligence (AI) tokens bittensor (TAO) and artificial super intelligence alliance (FET) both climbed by 14% as investors continue to speculate on a wider market breakout.
- CoinMarketCap’s “Altcoin Season” index is now at 40/100, its highest point since Jan. 9.
- CoinDesk’s Computing Select Index (CPUS) is the leading benchmark over the past 24 hours, having increased by 6.5%. It is followed by the CoinDesk Memecoin Index (CDMEME) and the DeFi Select Index (DFX), which are up by 4% and 3.7%, respectively.
- One laggard over the past 24 hours has been canton (CC). The token of the institutional-focused layer-1 network is down by 4%, taking its loss over the past month to 11%.
DeFi User Loses $50M in Crypto Swap Gone Wrong
A crypto user has lost millions during a crypto swap on the decentralized finance protocol Aave, with a Maximal Extractable Value, or MEV, bot also front-running the transaction to make almost $10 million.
A recently funded wallet from Binance containing $50.4 million USDt (USDT) executed a swap via decentralized exchange aggregator CoW Protocol and the SushiSwap DEX on Thursday, aiming to convert the full amount into the Aave (AAVE) token.
However, the wallet only received 327 AAVE tokens valued at approximately $36,000, according to Etherscan.
The result was an almost total loss as the user paid around $154,000 per AAVE, compared to its market price of around $114.
Adding to the loss was a MEV bot that did a “sandwich attack” on the user. MEV bots scan pending blockchain transactions, and in this case, targeted the large incoming AAVE order to inflate the price of the token ahead of the order to profit.
The bot front-ran the transaction by flash-borrowing $29 million wrapped Ether (ETH) tokens from Morpho to drive up the price of AAVE ahead of the user’s transaction with a purchase on Bancor. It then sold the inflated tokens on SushiSwap for a $9.9 million profit.
User ignored slippage warnings: Aave
Automated market makers, such as SushiSwap, use an automated pricing formula that adjusts slippage, the intended and actual price of a trade, depending on the size of the trading pool and impending trades.
Aave founder Stani Kulechov posted to X that the protocol interface warned the user about the “extraordinary slippage” due to the “unusually large size of the single order.”
“The user confirmed the warning on their mobile device and proceeded with the swap, accepting the high slippage,” he said.
Related: Vitalik Buterin proposes solutions for Ethereum’s MEV problem
CoW DAO said on X that “despite clear warnings that showed the user they would lose nearly all of the value of their transaction, and despite needing to explicitly opt into the trade after seeing the warning, the user chose to proceed with their swap.”
“No DEX, DEX aggregator, public liquidity pool, or private liquidity pool (or combination thereof) would have been able to fill this trade at anywhere near a reasonable price.”
CoW DAO said that trades like this “show that DeFi UX still isn’t where it needs to be to protect all users,” adding that it would refund any protocol fees associated with the transaction.
Kulechov said Aave sympathized with the user and would attempt to contact them to return $600,000 in fees it collected from the transaction.
“The key takeaway is that while DeFi should remain open and permissionless, allowing users to perform transactions freely, there are additional guardrails the industry can build to better protect users.”

BTC defies rising dollar, oil and yields, holds above $71,000 as macro pressures mount
Bitcoin rose above $71,500 on Friday, outperforming U.S. equities even as the dollar strengthened and oil prices remained elevated as the war with Iran was set to enter its third week.
A stronger dollar can tighten global financial conditions and often weighs on risk assets such as equities and cryptocurrencies. Higher oil prices — both Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate are hovering around $100 per barrel — reinforce inflation concerns and heighten expectations of interest-rate increases. Higher rates also detract from the attraction of such investments.
Despite these macro and geopolitical pressures, including the Middle East conflict, bitcoin has remained resilient and is among the best-performing macro assets since the war began on March 1. Historically, Fridays during this period have seen the largest cryptocurrency fall some 3%, a pattern that has not repeated so far today.
The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the strength of the U.S. currency against a basket of major global currencies, topped 100 for the first time since late November. U.S. Treasury yields are also rising, with the benchmark 10-year bond yield climbing above 4.2%, reflecting tighter financial conditions and higher borrowing costs.
The Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ), an exchange-traded fund that tracks the Nasdaq 100 index, meanwhile, was recently little changed.
In crypto-linked equities, Strategy (MSTR), the largest publicly traded corporate holder of bitcoin, added 1% before the start of official trading. The company has acquired roughly 11,000 BTC this week using proceeds from its perpetual preferred security Stretch (STRC).
Today marks the ex-dividend date for STRC, which means it has slipped slightly below its $100 par value to around $99.50.
Meanwhile, AI repurposed bitcoin miners such as IREN (IREN) and Cipher Digital (CIFR) opened slightly lower, while crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN) added about 2%.
Yellow Launches Strategic Alliance to Bridge Capital and Builders, Addressing Web3 Fragmentation
WHY THIS MATTERS
The launch of the Yellow Builders Alliance reflects a growing focus within the Web3 sector on building stronger ecosystems around developer communities. While many blockchain projects attract early technical interest, sustaining long-term growth often requires structured support, including funding access, mentorship, and marketing visibility. By creating an alliance that connects developers building on its SDK with industry partners and capital providers, Yellow aims to accelerate the development of practical applications across trading, DeFi and gaming.
Yellow today announced the launch of the Yellow Builders Alliance, a strategic initiative designed to foster an integrated and robust ecosystem for projects using Yellow’s SDK.
The Alliance provides these projects with essential resources, mentorship, and visibility from established industry partners, creating a coordinated environment where capital and technical innovation can converge to build lasting utility. It offers members unparalleled access to a pipeline of promising SDK projects for potential deal flow, significant co-marketing opportunities, and strategic association with Yellow’s expanding ecosystem.
This approach has been successfully employed by a number of other Web3 projects, including Solana, Optimism and Arbitrum. It addresses a critical need to bridge the gap between innovative technical development and the institutional support required for the long-term viability of Web3 projects.
More than 500 projects, typically retail apps in the trading, DeFi, and gaming sectors, have started building on the Yellow SDK.
“The Web3 ecosystem is evolving rapidly, demanding more structured and sustainable models for growth,” said Alexis Sirkia, Chairman of Yellow. “Yellow is launching the Builders Alliance to create a powerful network that aligns the interests of capital providers with the needs of our extensive builder community. This Alliance is designed to cultivate real-world utility, providing a clear pathway for developers to build impactful applications.”
This structured growth model is designed for ongoing impact, serving as a permanent vehicle for future ecosystem expansion, underscoring Yellow’s dedication to cultivating an environment where developers can thrive and contribute to the value of the decentralized financial landscape.
FF NEWS TAKE
Web3 platforms are increasingly recognising that technology alone is not enough to drive sustainable adoption.
Initiatives like the Yellow Builders Alliance show how ecosystem development—connecting developers with capital, expertise and distribution—has become a critical part of blockchain growth strategies. As competition between Web3 platforms intensifies, those that can successfully nurture developer communities and translate innovation into real-world utility are likely to build stronger and more resilient ecosystems.
