OpenAI Seals Data Center Deal as it Targets India

0

OpenAI unveiled its ambitions in India by securing 100 megawatts of data center capacity.

The generative AI vendor revealed the deal with Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) HyperVault data center subsidiary, the company launched the “OpenAI for India” program, an initiative designed to develop the sovereign AI capabilities of the world’s most populous country.

OpenAI says it will also accelerate enterprise adoption there and invest in workforce training as it looks to strengthen India’s thriving AI ecosystem.

India has been the focus of the AI world this week due to the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, which has already seen a number of significant developments, including a $100 billion commitment from the country’s Adani Group to build up AI infrastructure, and Microsoft’s pledge of $50 billion for AI rollout in the Global South by the end of decade.

Now, as the Indian market grows at a rapid pace, OpenAI has also revealed its hand, stating that the initial 100 MW of capacity it has agreed has the potential to scale to one gigawatt over time.

The vendor — which says it already has 100 million weekly ChatGPT users in India — is making its move in partnership with the local Tata Group, a multinational conglomerate with vast business interests arguably best known in the West for its ownership of automaker Jaguar Land Rover.

OpenAI says it will become the first customer HyperVault, though it did not disclose financial details of the arrangement.

The deal — which falls under the umbrella of the Stargate project launched in 2025 to build up AI infrastructure — will see clusters of GPUs enabling OpenAI’s models to run securely in India, meeting data residency, security and compliance requirements, even for government workloads.

On top of the infrastructure deal, OpenAI and Tata Group have also agreed to roll out ChatGPT Enterprise to Tata’s employees over the next few years, starting with TCS staff, which would constitute one of the largest enterprise deployments in the world.

TCS also intends to use OpenAI’s Codex system to standardize AI-native software development across teams and will encourage employees to participate in OpenAI’s upskilling certification program, which will also be introduced to leading education establishments.

“India is already leading the way for AI adoption, and with strong government support, it is well placed to help shape its future and how democratic AI is adopted at scale. Through OpenAI for India, we’re working together to build the infrastructure, skills and local partnerships needed to build AI with India, for India and in India,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a release.

Dutch regulator orders Polymarket to halt operations or face €840,000 penalty

0

The Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit, has ordered Polymarket to stop offering its services in the Netherlands, concluding the platform operates unlicensed games of chance under Dutch law.

In a public decision dated January 20, 2026, the authority found that Adventure One QSS Inc., identified as the operator of polymarket.com, allowed Dutch users to register, deposit funds and place wagers without holding a local gambling license nether.

Regulators confirmed from a Dutch IP address that users could create accounts, deposit €10 through a Dutch bank via Mastercard and place bets on political markets, including outcomes tied to Dutch elections.

The Kansspelautoriteit determined that the platform violates Article 1(1)(a) of the Dutch Gambling Act, which prohibits offering games of chance without a license. Polymarket has four weeks to cease access from the Netherlands or face penalties of €420,000 per week, capped at €840,000.

The regulator rejected Polymarket’s argument that its products function as financial prediction markets rather than gambling. It said payouts depend on uncertain external events beyond participants’ control, meeting the statutory definition of a game of chance.

Polymarket and similar platforms have faced scrutiny or enforcement in US states, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Singapore, Portugal, Hungary, Thailand and now the Netherlands.

Bluefin and Basis Theory Partner to Enable Unified Tokenization Across Digital and In-Person Payments

0

Bluefin, the global leader in payment and data security infrastructure and PCI-validated point-to-point encryption (P2PE), today announced a strategic partnership with Basis Theory, a modern, API-driven tokenization and vaulting platform. Together, the companies enable enterprises to implement a unified token strategy across in-store, call center, online, and backend payment environments without expanding PCI scope or introducing new integration complexity.

As organizations increasingly adopt hybrid and omnichannel payment models, many face fragmentation between cloud-native tokenization platforms and certified in-person payment environments. This partnership addresses that challenge by aligning Bluefin’s PointConex™ platform with Basis Theory’s tokenization capabilities, allowing sensitive payment data to be securely captured, tokenized, and used consistently across all channels.

Basis Theory provides a developer-friendly platform for securely capturing and vaulting sensitive payment data through modern APIs and represents a growing class of digital-first tokenization providers serving enterprise and SaaS platforms. By leveraging PointConex, customers can extend their digital token strategies into certified in-person payment environments, creating a seamless, future-ready payments architecture while maintaining control over their data.

Bluefin’s PointConex platform delivers processor-agnostic, card-present orchestration with PCI-validated P2PE, supporting more than 125 certified devices across leading manufacturers. Designed as a no-code proxy rather than a gateway or API-based integration, PointConex enables digital-first service providers to access certified in-person payment rails without disrupting existing workflows or expanding compliance scope.

“As organizations expand into hybrid payment experiences, PointConex provides a standardized way to secure in-person payment rails without adding new compliance or integration complexity,” said Ruston Miles, Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Bluefin. “By aligning with modern, independent tokenization platforms like Basis Theory, we enable a consistent approach to protecting payment data across all channels while preserving flexibility and data ownership.”

“Our partnership helps merchants connect customer spending data across in-store and online channels,” said Colin Luce, Co-Founder and CEO of Basis Theory. “Merchants gain a more consistent checkout experience, wherever customers choose to pay, while maintaining strong security and flexibility across their payment environments.”

The Bluefin and Basis Theory partnership supports enterprises seeking PCI Level 1 data security infrastructure to future-proof payment workflows, reduce vendor lock-in, and maintain ownership of payment data across evolving commerce models.

Bitcoin May See Upside After AI Stocks Become ‘Silly Big’

0

Bitcoin’s next major leg up could hinge on artificial intelligence stocks becoming excessively overvalued in the eyes of investors, according to macroeconomist Lyn Alden.

“It could be that the AI stocks eventually just peak, they get so silly big that they can’t get realistically much higher,” Alden told Natalie Brunell on the Coin Stories podcast published to YouTube on Thursday.

When an asset’s price rises to a level where further gains are harder to justify, capital often moves into other opportunities with more potential upside.

With Bitcoin (BTC) down almost 46% from its October all-time high of $126,100, Alden suggests it could be a beneficiary of that rotation.

Nvidia may be the “most important stock” in US, says exec

Some financial analysts are questioning whether the largest AI stocks will keep up their momentum in 2026. Albion Financial Group chief investment officer Jason Ware recently told Fox Business that he expects GPU chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA), the largest company on the Nasdaq stock exchange by market capitalization, to have “another great quarter,” but asked whether it will “be good enough.”

“We all know they are the most concentrated, obvious winner in the AI build out. Can that growth continue in a way that supports the stock moving higher?”

Nvidia’s (NVDA) stock price is up 35.48% over the past 12 months, according to Google Finance, and Ware said that it is “probably the most important company and most important stock in America in the market.”

The rise of investor interest in AI means that Bitcoin is now “competing for capital” in a way it never has before, Bitcoin developer Mark Carallo said on Thursday.

Bitcoin only needs a “marginal amount” of new demand

However, Alden said Bitcoin wouldn’t need a significant wave of capital to move higher. “It only takes a marginal amount of new demand to come in,” Alden said, adding that long-term holders essentially “put the floor in” as short-term traders rotate out.
