Yield Suffers $3.7M Loss Due to ‘Unintended’ Stablecoin Swap
Security firms said the Ethereum-based trade likely bypassed slippage protections.
Yield Protocol (YO) suffered a roughly $3.73 million loss on Tuesday, Jan. 13, after a vault swap turned about $3.84 million worth of stkGHO, a staked version of Aave’s GHO stablecoin, into only around $122,000 in USDC, according to blockchain security firms PeckShield and BlockSec.
PeckShieldAlert said in a post on X that the loss happened during a swap from stkGHO to USDC due to extreme slippage. Slippage occurs when a trade executes at a worse price than expected, often during fast market moves or when there isn’t enough liquidity for a large trade.
BlockSec said the swap took place on Ethereum and described it as a “bizarre” trade. Meanwhile, QuillAudits said the trade may have been routed through a Uniswap v4 pool, which uses “hooks” that can make swaps more complex and harder to predict.
Security researchers emphasized that the incident was not a smart contract exploit or a hack. Still, the incident highlights a key risk in decentralized finance (DeFi): even without a hack, large trades can result in major losses if routed through thin liquidity or high-fee pools.
YO reportedly addressed the recipient of the funds in an on-chain message, describing the event as an “unintended swap” and proposing that they keep 10% of the proceeds as a bug bounty and return the remainder, according to Defimon Alerts, which shared the message on X.
QuillAudits further noted that the team moved quickly after the swap, buying back roughly $3.7 million worth of GHO and redepositing stkGHO into the vault. The firm also said YO temporarily paused the YoUSD market on Pendle before re-enabling it after recapitalization.
The incident quickly drew criticism on social media, with some users questioning the protocol’s risk controls and how the swap was executed. Numerous observers accused the team of negligence for allowing such a trade to go through.
YO has not published a full public explanation as of press time. The Defiant has reached out to the team for comment, but has yet to receive a response.

Whether you are a first-time visitor to Hoi An or returning to discover more, a Cham Island tour promises memorable experiences for all kinds of travelers.
How Do You Reach Cham Islands from Hoi An?
The journey to Cham Islands begins in the Hoi An town center, where many local tour operators and Vietnam tour companies offer organized trips. Most day trips include hotel pickup and a speedboat ride to the islands, which takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Traveling by boat not only saves time but also offers scenic views of the coastline, allowing you to enjoy the turquoise waters and picturesque landscapes before you even step foot on the islands. For those who prefer flexibility, private boat options are also available, giving you control over your itinerary and the freedom to explore at your own pace.
What Can You Do on a Cham Island Day Trip?
Cham Islands are known for their diverse activities. Beaches like Bai Chong and Bai Ong offer soft sand and calm waters, perfect for sunbathing or a leisurely swim. Snorkeling is a highlight, with crystal-clear waters revealing colorful coral reefs and an array of tropical fish. Many day trips include snorkeling gear and guidance for beginners, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
For nature enthusiasts, walking trails around the islands provide opportunities to explore dense forests and hidden coves. You might come across traditional fishing villages, where locals welcome visitors with warmth and curiosity. Sampling fresh seafood caught daily adds a culinary delight to the adventure, making your Cham Island day trip a full sensory experience.
Why Choose a Guided Tour?

Additionally, tour operators often have partnerships with local restaurants and service providers, guaranteeing both quality and convenience throughout your trip.

During this period, snorkeling conditions are optimal, and visibility in the water is excellent. Avoiding the monsoon season, which runs from September to November, ensures a safer and more comfortable experience, as heavy rains and rough seas can disrupt boat trips.
What Should You Pack for a Day on the Islands?
A comfortable day trip requires some preparation. Light clothing, swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential to protect against the tropical sun. Waterproof bags or cases for electronics are recommended for beach activities and snorkeling. If you plan to explore walking trails, sturdy sandals or shoes with good grip are useful. Carrying some cash is also important, as not all local vendors accept cards.
How to Make the Most of Your Cham Island Experience?
To maximize your day on Cham Islands, start early. Most tours depart in the morning, allowing you to enjoy the cooler hours before the midday sun. Engage fully with the activities offered, whether swimming, snorkeling, or interacting with local villagers. Taking time to appreciate the natural beauty of the islands will make your trip more memorable. For photography enthusiasts, the islands provide stunning backdrops—from lush greenery and sparkling waters to traditional boats moored along the shore.

Ukraine Blocks Polymarket, Labels Platform for Offering Unlicensed Gambling
Ukraine has blocked access to the prediction market platform Polymarket, classifying its activities as unlicensed gambling under national law.
The decision was issued by the National Commission for the Regulation of Electronic Communications (NCEC) on Dec. 10, 2025, under Resolution No. 695. The ruling requires internet service providers to restrict access to online resources that organize, conduct or facilitate gambling without a valid license.
As part of the enforcement, the domain polymarket.com has been added to Ukraine’s public register of blocked websites, effectively cutting off local access to the platform, local news outlets reported on Monday.
Polymarket differentiates itself from traditional betting sites by allowing users to buy and sell shares tied to the outcome of real-world events, with prices reflecting market-implied probabilities, rather than offering fixed odds.
Ukraine slams Polymarket over war-related bets
The ban on Polymarket comes as Ukrainian authorities have criticized the platform for facilitating bets on geopolitical events linked to Russia’s invasion.

Polymarket is restricted across 33 other countries, including France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland, Belgium, Iran, Singapore, Iraq, North Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia.
Founded in 2020 by Shane Coplan, Polymarket has grown into one of the most prominent prediction platforms globally, with an estimated valuation of $8 billion. All bets on Polymarket are placed using the USDC (USDC) stablecoin on the Polygon blockchain, making transactions and settlements publicly verifiable.

US lawmaker looks to ban insider trading on prediction markets
As Cointelegraph recently reported, US Representative Ritchie Torres is preparing legislation that would restrict insider trading on prediction markets, following scrutiny over a highly profitable bet linked to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
The proposed measure, known as the Public Integrity in Financial Prediction Markets Act of 2026, would bar federal lawmakers, political appointees and executive branch employees from trading contracts tied to political or policy outcomes when they possess nonpublic information gained through their official roles.
Last week, Tennessee’s sports betting regulator also ordered Kalshi, Polymarket and Crypto.com to halt the offering of sports event contracts to residents of the state.

Bitcoin Sell-Side Risk Ratio Falls To Lowest Since Oct ’23
On-chain data shows the Bitcoin Sell-Side Risk Ratio has plummeted recently. Here’s what this could suggest for the cryptocurrency.
Bitcoin Sell-Side Risk Ratio Has Fallen To Multi-Year Lows
In a new post on X, Glassnode analyst Chris Beamish has talked about the latest trend in the Bitcoin Sell-Side Risk Ratio, an on-chain indicator that keeps track of the ratio between the sum of all profits and losses realized on the network and the cryptocurrency’s Realized Cap.
The Realized Cap here refers to a capitalization model that calculates BTC’s total value by assuming that the value of each coin in circulation is equal to the price at which it was last transacted on the blockchain.
The last transfer price of any token is likely to represent its cost basis, so the Realized Cap measures the sum of the cost bases of the total BTC supply. In other words, it represents the total amount of capital that the investors have put into the cryptocurrency.
As such, the Sell-Side Risk Ratio tells us about how the amount of profit and loss that Bitcoin investors are realizing compares against the total capital stored in the asset.
Now, here is the chart for the indicator shared by Beamish that shows how its value has changed over the last few years:
The value of the metric seems to have plummeted in recent weeks | Source: @ChrisBeamish_ on X
As displayed in the above graph, the Bitcoin Sell-Side Risk Ratio shot up to a notable value with the price crash in November. This suggests that investors took a large amount of profit and loss alongside the volatility.
Since this high, the indicator’s value has seen a steep drop and has returned to the lowest level since October 2023. The analyst has noted that this points to “subdued conviction behind distribution at current price levels.”
Typically, market volatility tends to be low when these conditions form, so it only remains to be seen how the price of the cryptocurrency will develop in the near future.
In some other news, demand from the Bitcoin retail investors has been missing recently, as CryptoQuant author IT Tech has pointed out in an X post. The indicator cited by IT Tech is the 30-day change in the Retail Investor Demand, measuring the percentage change in the volume associated with the small hands (transactions valued at less than $10,000).
Looks like the value of the indicator has been negative recently | Source: @IT_Tech_PL on X
As is visible in the chart, the 30-day change in the Bitcoin Retail Investor Demand has been declining inside the negative zone recently, implying that the activity of the retail entities has been going down. The indicator’s trend hasn’t changed even after the recent recovery surge.

Arm Launches Physical AI Unit
Chip technology company Arm Holdings has announced a structural overhaul, creating a new unit dedicated to physical AI as interest in the sector continues to ramp up.
“The unit will look to develop technologies that combine AI and real-world physical movement, from vehicles to robots to autonomous machines,” an Arm spokesperson told AI Business.
The news comes as interest in physical and embodied AI continues to boom, with a spate of companies such as Nvidia making investments into developing the technologies.
Physical AI is defined as systems that can effectively operate in and respond to their physical environments, with particular use cases in the growing fields of humanoid robotics and autonomous vehicles.
The demand for these physical systems means companies are increasingly turning to predictable, low-latency systems that Arm said it is uniquely positioned to provide.
“Arm delivers both unmatched energy efficiency and the world’s largest software developer base, making it the natural platform for building and scaling physical and edge AI systems globally,” the company said in a blog post on the department’s launch. “That maturity means innovation can move faster, scale more broadly, and deploy more safely as AI transitions from digital intelligence to physical intelligence in the real world.”
Alongside physical AI, the company unveiled business units dedicated to cloud AI and edge AI.
“AI is transforming every industry and reshaping what’s possible,” the spokesperson said. “To stay aligned with these opportunities, Arm has evolved how we organize our business around where AI is happening: in the cloud, at the edge and in the physical world.”
The Cloud AI unit will focus on supporting high-performance AI across data center compute, while the Edge AI unit will make on-device AI across smartphones, wearables and other embedded devices its focus.
Arm-based chips are already used by several tech giants. The company’s compute platform is also used in Nvidia’s physical AI stack to accelerate AI that can “reason, plan, and adapt in dynamic environments,” according to the blog post.
The stack is being used to power robots and autonomous machines from companies including Boston Dynamics, LG Electronics and Neura Robotics.
BTC Breaks $93K as CLARITY Act Delay Tests Markets’ Patience
Bitcoin’s (BTC) price made a new weekly high of $93,500 on Tuesday as lawmakers pushed back deliberations on the long-awaited CLARITY Act, a bill designed to define crypto market structure in the United States.
Key takeaways:
-
Bitcoin continues to rally despite the CLARITY Act markup being pushed to late January.
-
Exchange netflows stayed low, and the SOPR hovered near 1, signaling minimal profit-taking.
-
Retail demand for BTC remains low during this recovery rally, as liquidity remains thin.
Bitcoin gains as volatility compresses after CLARITY Act delay
Senate committees, including Agriculture and Banking, postponed planned markups of the CLARITY Act to the final week of January. Senate Agriculture Committee Chair John Boozman confirmed the delay, citing unresolved disagreements over stablecoin incentives, DeFi oversight, and agency jurisdiction.
While earlier expectations had already shifted to 2026, the latest pause further clouds the prospects for swift legalization. Yet BTC price action suggests traders are largely unfazed.
Over the past 24 hours, Bitcoin traded in a tight range, briefly dipping below $91,000 before breaking above $93,500 during the New York trading session. The lack of aggressive selling during the CLARITY Act delay contrasts with prior regulatory scares, when exchange inflows typically surged.
This time, exchange netflows remained muted, signaling that investors are not positioning for an imminent downside shock, according to XWIN Research.

The Spent Output Profit Ratio (SOPR) data reinforces that calm. The metric hovers around or slightly below 1, the SOPR indicates limited profit-taking and onchain spending overall. This could be interpreted as a patient market, with holders extending their time horizon rather than rotating capital.
At a broader level, the CLARITY Act is increasingly viewed as an integration milestone rather than a binary risk event. Even before formal passage, Bitcoin appears to be transitioning toward a more “institutional-grade” holding profile.

ETF liquidity and retail absence temper optimism
However, this patience comes with caveats. Crypto Analyst Darkfost noted the largest liquidity drawdown ever recorded in spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). With an average realized price near $86,000, many ETF inflows since the October 2025 all-time high are now underwater. More than $6 billion has exited spot ETFs, though flows have stabilized over the past two weeks.

Meanwhile, retail participation remains largely absent. CryptoQuant data indicates that 30-day BTC demand from small buyers (between $0 to $10,000) shows deeply negative readings, a stark contrast to prior bull phases.
This suggests the current range is supported mainly by larger players. Adding to caution, the Coinbase premium index has yet to flip bullish. Market commentator CryptoGodJohn said,
“Biggest indicator to keep an eye on is Coinbase premium. Until we get a positive flow, I don’t think we will see a strong reversal.”
