Nasdaq Tells Canaan to Boost Share Price or Face Delisting
Crypto mining hardware maker Canaan Inc., which has seen its shares down 63% in the last 12 months, has received a warning from Nasdaq to increase its share price within 180 days or face delisting from the major stock market index.
Canaan said in a statement on Friday that the Nasdaq contacted the company on Wednesday to warn it was not in compliance with listing rules, as its shares’ closing bid price had been below $1 for the last 30 business days.
The Nasdaq gave Canaan 180 days, until July 13, to “regain compliance with the minimum bid price requirement,” which requires its closing bid price to hit at least $1 per share for a minimum of 10 trading days in a row.
Shares in Canaan (CAN) last closed above $1 on Nov. 28. It comes as many crypto mining companies have moved some or all of their operations to providing computing power for artificial intelligence, reducing their purchases of crypto mining rigs.
Canaan closed trading on Friday at $0.79, down 3.8% on the day. Its shares haven’t traded above $3 since December 2024.
Canaan could get more time to regain compliance
Canaan said if it doesn’t boost its share price and regain compliance by July 13, Nasdaq staff could agree to grant it additional time to bring its share price up.
The company added that it could apply to the Nasdaq for an extension to regain compliance, which would see it agree to “effecting a reverse stock split if necessary,” where it reduces the number of outstanding shares to boost the price of those remaining.
If Nasdaq staff determine that Canaan can’t boost its share price, it will be subject to delisting, which has typically seen shares fall as they become harder to buy and sell as they move to over-the-counter markets.

Canaan said in October that a US-based company had bought 50,000 of its latest-generation “Avalon A15 Pro” mining rigs, its largest order in over three years, which sent its stock price surging by 25%.
In December, Bitcoin (BTC) treasury company Kindly MD received a similar delisting notice from the Nasdaq as its shares traded below $1 for 30 trading days.
The Nasdaq gave Kindly MD (NAKA) until June to boost its shares to avoid delisting. Shares in the company closed at $0.46 on Friday and last closed above $1 in late October.
In August, the Nasdaq delisted Windtree Therapeutics, a biotech company that established a BNB treasury a month earlier, for failing to meet compliance requirements.
Shares in the company fell 77% the day the Nasdaq announced it would delist Windtree as investors rushed to exit the company before it was removed from the exchange.

Bitcoin Price Plunges Nearly $4,000 In Two Hours
The bitcoin price plunged nearly $4,000 in a sharp evening sell-off after President Donald Trump announced plans to impose sweeping new tariffs on Europe on Saturday.
Around 6 p.m. EST, massive amounts of selling hit the crypto market triggering a wave of forced liquidations across the bitcoin price and altcoins.
The world’s largest cryptocurrency fell from around $95,500 to an intraday low of $91,935 in a span of roughly two hours, according to Bitcoin Magazine Pro data.
The sudden drop wiped out more than $500 million in leveraged long positions in just 60 minutes, with total crypto long liquidations topping $525 million during the same period, according to market data.
The bitcoin price has since stabilized near $92,600, but remains down about 2.5% over the past 24 hours.
The sell-off coincided with heightened macro uncertainty after Trump said the U.S. would introduce new tariffs on European nations beginning February 1.
Under the proposal, a 10% tariff would be applied to goods from eight countries — Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland — rising to 25% by June 1 if no agreement is reached.
Trump linked the measures to U.S. efforts to secure Greenland, escalating already tense transatlantic relations.
European leaders pushed back strongly. In a joint statement, the affected countries warned that the tariff threats risk a “dangerous downward spiral,” while Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Europe “will not be blackmailed.”
Protests were reported in Denmark and Greenland over the weekend, adding to the political fallout.
Gold prices also climbed to a new all-time high of around $4,670 at the time of writing.
Economic conditions affecting the bitcoin price
On top of this, the U.S. Supreme Court is set to rule on a closely watched case that could determine whether President Donald Trump had the authority to impose sweeping tariffs under emergency powers, a decision with major implications for trade policy and federal revenues.
At issue is Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to declare trade deficits a national emergency and levy broad tariffs, including a baseline 10% duty on most imports.
A ruling against Trump could force the government to refund more than $100 billion in tariffs already collected, undermining funding assumptions tied to defense and budget plans, according to reports from Reuters and the Tax Foundation.
If the court upholds Trump’s authority, existing tariffs would remain in place and future measures — such as those duties on European goods tied to Greenland — could proceed. Importers are already preparing for both outcomes, with many keeping shipments “unliquidated” to preserve potential refund claims.
The bitcoin price is down roughly 3% from its seven-day high of $95,468, and trades within a tight range above its seven-day low of $92,284. The asset has a circulating supply of 19.98 million BTC, with a maximum supply capped at 21 million.
The global Bitcoin market capitalization stands at approximately $1.85 trillion, down about 2% on the day, while 24-hour trading volume reached $32 billion.

How crypto IPOs will change in 2026 – DL News
The Roundup
- An XRP treasury firm will be listed on the Nasdaq.
- It joins a list of crypto companies that will go public in 2026.

Hi. Eric here.
A slew of crypto companies are gearing up to go public in 2026, and an XRP-linked firm just joined the fray.
Before you get too excited, I’m not talking about Ripple.
The venture that originally created the cryptocurrency ruled out an initial public offering last week, with President Monica Long telling Bloomberg that Ripple’s strong balance sheet means it doesn’t need to go public just yet.
Instead, it’s the XRP treasury, Evernorth, that’s due to be listed on the Nasdaq in the first quarter of the year through a SPAC merger with another company called Armada Acquisition Corp II.
“The timing couldn’t be more perfect,” Asheesh Birla, CEO of XRP treasury Evernorth Holdings, told Nasdaq MarketSite on Thursday.
Evernorth holds 388 million XRP tokens bought at an average price of $2.44, according to CryptoQuant data.
By going public, Evernorth joins a list of crypto firms planning to do the same in 2026. The list includes crypto exchange Kraken, Strategy underwriter Clear Street, blockchain infrastructure firm Consensys, and hardware wallet developer Ledger.
The IPO push comes on the back of a blockbuster year for crypto companies to list on stock exchanges. Stablecoin issuer Circle and crypto exchange Gemini were just two ventures that went public in 2025.
The surge in publicly listed companies has been fuelled by the US government’s increasingly welcome attitude towards the industry, which saw the Trump administration support crypto-friendly laws, regulators and government appointees.
This has encouraged traditional financial players to grow closer and make overtures to bake blockchain solutions into their businesses.
Indeed, the rising number of crypto IPOs and Wall Street’s adoption of digital ledgers will have a significant impact on the wave of publicly listed companies this year, according to Samantha Lewis, partner at early-stage venture capital firm Mercury Fund.
“The common thread across potential listings is infrastructure that routes capital between traditional balance sheets and onchain markets,” she told DL News in December.
At least two football clubs have pulled out of sponsorship deals after BlockDAG failed to pay for multi-million-dollar contracts, according to documents seen by DL News. Now investors wonder where their money went. Liam Kelly broke the story.
Some of the most prominent names in crypto are split over a last-minute decision to delay Thursday’s scheduled vote on landmark crypto legislation, Aleks Gilbert reported.
Strategy Chair Michael Saylor gave an interviewer an earful after being questioned about the viability of digital asset treasury firms, Pedro Solimano reported.
Post of the Week

US Bitcoin ETFs Post Strongest Weekly Inflows Since Last October — Details
Spot Bitcoin ETFs (exchange-traded funds) in the United States have had a relatively positive start to the new year after a wobbly ending to 2025. In this spirit of market positivity, the crypto-linked investment products have just recorded their best weekly performance since early October.
This latest weekly inflow of capital signals the return of demand among the US institutional investors, with the price of Bitcoin also reacting positively in the same period. Over the past week, the premier cryptocurrency saw the return of bullish momentum, surging to as high as $97,500.
Bitcoin ETFs Record $1.42B In Weekly Inflows
According to the latest market data, the US spot Bitcoin ETFs registered a total net inflow of $1.42 billion in the past week. As earlier mentioned, this round of capital influx marked the strongest weekly performance by the crypto-linked investment products in nearly three months.
This $1.42 billion weekly performance also stands in stark contrast to the Bitcoin ETFs’ previous week record of over $681 million in withdrawals. Before this renewed investor attention, the BTC exchange-traded funds had pulled in approximately $1.26 billion in capital since the week ending 17th October, 2025.

On Friday, January 16, though, the US-based Bitcoin ETFs saw a total of $394.64 million in net outflow, ending a mini 4-day streak of capital influx. Leading the outflows was Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), with $205.22 million of value withdrawn on the day.
This was followed by Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB), which posted a total net outflow of $90.38 million on Friday. Ark 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) and Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) were the only other exchange-traded funds that recorded a negative daily net outflow ($69.42 million and $44.76 million, respectively) to close the week.
It is worth mentioning that BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) tried absorbing some of the shock from the withdrawals with its lone $15.09 million inflow on Friday. This daily performance added to the leading ETF’s weekly $1-billion positive inflow performance.
Similar to the Bitcoin ETFs, Ether exchange-traded funds also saw positive activity over the past week, including its largest single-day performance since launch. According to data from SoSoValue, the ETH ETFs recorded nearly $480 million in positive capital inflows over the past week.
Bitcoin Price At A Glance
As inferred earlier, the BTC price and Bitcoin ETFs moved in tandem over the past week, as demand seemingly returned to the market. While the flagship cryptocurrency had crossed the $97,000 mark earlier in the previous week, it is now trading slightly above the $95,000 level following a minor dip in recent days.

Elon Musk’s social platform X returned to service after widespread disruption on Friday morning.
Data from DownDetector.com, which tracks real-time user complaints, shows the outage peaked at more than 56,000 reports around 10:12 a.m. ET. Users reported being unable to load timelines, post updates, or access the core features of the platform.
The majority of complaints were tied to X’s mobile app, which made up 57% of reports, while 33% of users said they had trouble accessing the website. Only 10% cited server connectivity issues.
The disruption appeared to last less than an hour before service was restored.
Musk and X’s engineering team have yet to comment on the temporary outage. At the time of the outage, X’s developer platform status page still listed all systems as operational.
X has seen periodic service disruptions. In March 2025, a major outage led to more than 40,000 user reports of login and service problems, with Musk suggesting the platform may have been targeted by a nation-state or a group with comparable technical expertise.
