ANNA Money Secures HMRC Making Tax Digital Approval, Launches Free Auto Accountant Tool

ANNA Money, the AI-powered business account and tax app, has officially been approved by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) as a certified software provider for Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax. The newly granted approval enables the fintech’s customers to submit their required quarterly tax filings directly to HMRC through ANNA’s intuitive and automated platform.

The certification arrives just as the UK tax landscape prepares for a major operational shift. Starting on 6 April 2026, the MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment mandate will officially launch for higher earners making over £50,000. Under this new system, self-employed individuals, sole traders, freelancers, and landlords will be required to maintain digital records and submit their tax information using compatible software on a quarterly basis.

This represents a fundamental change from the traditional annual filing system. As MTD requirements continue to expand, businesses must ensure they are prepared to adjust their administrative processes to the new system.

Automating compliance with AI

To help businesses navigate this transition and digital record keeping, ANNA Money is launching “Auto Accountant”. The firm describes this as the UK’s first agentic operating system capable of preparing and filing tax returns for small businesses and sole traders, which includes Corporation Tax, VAT, and MTD-ready Self Assessments. Notably, the Auto Accountant tool will be available completely free of charge for MTD Self Assessment, covering both quarterly and year-end filings for the 2026/27 tax year.

Designed to eliminate the complexity of tax administration, ANNA’s platform leverages artificial intelligence to automatically categorise transactions, keep digital records, and prepare the necessary information required for quarterly MTD filings once a customer is set up. According to the company, customers simply need to sync their bank accounts, and the AI handles the rest. This ensures that submissions are accurate, on time, and require minimal manual work.

“Today’s HMRC approval is a huge vote of confidence in ANNA Money and our offering to small businesses owners across the UK,” Panteleev stated.

He acknowledged that while many SME owners and sole traders currently feel uncertain about their future with the introduction of MTD, ANNA aims to ensure that cost and complexity do not stand in the way of growing their businesses. Panteleev added that the company is delighted to be included on the approved providers list.
