OCR Studio, a developer of identity verification technologies, will unveil a specialised AI solution for businesses that work with Asia-Pacific (APAC) clients. It is designed to support the region’s widely used ID documents and writing systems such as logographic, alphabetic, abugida, and syllabary. The AI runs entirely on-device, which helps companies to meet stringent regional data-privacy requirements and enables secure KYC and customer onboarding. The system will be presented at GITEX AI ASIA, Asia’s largest technological event, taking place 9-10 April 2026 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
The Asia-Pacific is the world’s most populous region with over 4.3 billion people (~60% of the world’s population). Its dominant languages span Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Urdu – a difficult challenge for many existing OCR systems. Some of these languages involve thousands of character classes, cursive writing, and unusual letter connections making the symbol segmentation far more complicated than in Latin scripts. OCR Studio’s APAC-Focused AI System, which will be showcased this year at GITEX AI ASIA, effectively addresses these scripts’ features and reliably recognizes ID cards, passports, driving licenses, and other identity documents issued across the region.
The system is designed to enable fast and convenient KYC and onboarding for APAC customers. It instantly extracts data from identity documents of 4 000+ templates and performs cross-validation by comparing information from the NFC chip with VIZ and MRZ data fields to verify the document’s authenticity. OCR Studio’s solution also includes a face comparison module that matches a real-time selfie of the client with the document holder’s photo, allowing to detect presentation attacks and prevent illegitimate users from passing verification.
GITEX AI ASIA is expected to bring together 23 000+ tech executives and 600+ global enterprises – for many of these businesses, meeting data-protection requirements across APAC is crucial. OCR Studio considered this demand by making its system to run on-device. Thus, the recognition is conducted entirely on the end user’s smartphone or desktop and ID images are not sent to clouds, external servers, or crowdsourcing platforms. This helps companies comply with the stringent rules set by Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), China’s Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL), Indonesia’s Law No. 27 on Personal Data Protection (PDP Law), and more.
OCR Studio is a technology company specializing in advanced optical character recognition solutions for KYC and customer onboarding. The company offers a range of products as standalone software development kits (SDKs), allowing seamless integration with mobile, web, desktop, and server environments. OCR Studio’s solutions support over 100 languages and recognize identity documents of 250+ issuers worldwide.
